Buffalo Pediatricians Start Program to Fight Childhood Obesity

BUFFALO, NY (WGRZ) -- Pediatricians at Allentown Pediatrics started a walking program to encourage patients and parents to start moving and make healthy life choices.

Since the program started 7 weeks, patients and their parents have walked around Delaware Park in an effort to get moving.  Pediatricians Dr. Daryl Ehlenfield and Dr. Deborah Raiken say the program has gotten their patients excited about excercise.

The group averages about 20 - 30 people each Wednesday night with staff from Allentown Pediatrics also participating.

Superintendent Says No to Teacher Transfer Requests

BUFFALO, NY (WGRZ) -- This year nearly 600 Buffalo Public School teachers submitted requests to transfer to different schools. The Superintendent says no requests will be granted.

Calling this his toughest summer as a Superintendent, Dr. Williams wants stability in every school building.  When asked why he believes so many teachers want to transfer, Dr. Williams said there are many reasons.  "They want to move to another school and historically in this district they have moved around. Some don't want to be with principal X, Y, Z."

The district is also has to replace six principals who retired. The schools in need of principals are Hutch Tech, Montessori, Leonardo DaVinci and Schools 3, 54 and 65.

On Monday, the Superintendent will get a list of the top three candidates for each of the schools. He expects to have principals in place by August 18.
