A Statement Released by This Is An Empire
Buffalo, NY May 18, 2012- This Is An Empire originally known as a local electronic rock band launches their first blog/digital record label next Saturday, May 18th at Mohawk Place. For the first time, This Is An Empire has created a blog group that will transform the Buffalo music viewing and entertainment experience.
This Is An Empire is a Buffalo based online music record label spearheaded by local singer/production designer, Adam Curtin. The label will help promote the local and statewide up and coming music scenes. This Is An Empire blog will feature artists and musicians that are seeking publicity in the area’s entertainment and performance venues. Artists will be spotlighted with an identity page on the blog each week. The blog page will include attached bios, photos, upcoming tours, video and appropriate contact information. Sampled music will also be linked to each blog to further the artist’s identity package.
Founder, Adam Curtin is a self- taught lighting and production specialist. He has spent most of his career singing and playing with instruments like synthesisers and bass guitar. Currently, Curtin works lighting design for Town Ballroom music hall in downtown Buffalo. He has also produced and written music locally for the last six years and is eager to see the development and growth of the blog.
“I want to give bands a spotlight and an outlet to share their art in a meaningful way. I don’t like the mentality of trying to get heads in the door, take their money, and kick them out; I want an event to feel special and fun,” says Curtin. “We’re going to develop thisisanempire.com as a resource for bands and their fans to seek what is new not only in Buffalo, but in New York State as a music empire.” comments Curtin.
On Friday, May 18th there will be two events to promote the launch of Thisisanempire.com at Mohawk Place. The first showcase will have three bands, Sunset Wakeup (Buffalo, NY), Ghost Sequence (WNY), and The Stellar Life (Cleveland). Doors will be open for part one of the event at 6pm with $5 admission at the door for 18+.
Part two will be the post party that includes an entirely different experience. Mohawk Place will transform from grungy rock bar to experimental arthouse light installation mega club. Video and lighting installations as well as Dj sets provided by Adam Curtin (Drapes) and his partner Matthew Salzler on drums. Together they will revolutionize Mohawk Place for a live DJ mash up performance. Other DJ’s will include, Bearskinrug and Brian Macleod.
Admission is free for the post party from admission from the early showcase, otherwise $2 for 21+ and $5 for 18-20.
