Capture a Taste of Niagara County with Schulze Vineyards & Winery

Now that the holidays are behind us, who could blame you for looking forward to a little rest and relaxation? So go ahead, put on your favorite music, light the fire and pour yourself a glass of wine from Schulze Vineyards & Winery. A Western New York and Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market favorite, Schulze offers a wide variety of wines, including sparkling and dessert wines.

While Schulze Vineyards has been in operation for more than 40 years, the winery just opened its doors in 2007. Situated on 122 acres of land in Niagara County, just minutes from the south shore of Lake Ontario, it offers a gorgeous country setting with spectacular views of the vineyards.

Local Businesses Ask Community for Support in Charitable Giving

AMHERST, NY -- For many years, Jesse's Children Health Mission has brought groups of volunteers to the Dominican Republic. Doctors, dentists and optometrists tend to the children of the region with donated supplies.

Robyn Young, CEO of Great Erie Federal Credit Union, is an active volunteer to the mission. She has a trip to the Dominican planned for March 2011 and will be collecting eyeglasses of any size and any prescription through January for the cause. The children will receive eye exams, with the donated eyeglasses being neutralized and re-prescribed to each.

After hearing about Young's commitment, managers at Urban Valet Dry Cleaners decided to join forces and ask their customers to donate as well. Glasses can be dropped off at the credit union at 4000 North Buffalo Road in Orchard Park, or at any of Urban Valet's locations in Hamburg, Orchard Park, or downtown Buffalo.

Mellon Grant Advances Buffalo State College Art Conservation Program

The Buffalo State College Foundation has been generously awarded a $388,000 grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to benefit the Buffalo State College Art Conservation Program to support a three-year pilot program aimed at enhancing the college’s current offering in the important specialties of conservation required by libraries and archives.

The expanded curriculum, which begins September 2011, fills a void in the conservation programs.  In response, the Mellon Foundation is funding the pilot program here, and at two other institutions respected for their art conservation programs, the University of Delaware and the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.
