National Grid Offers Energy Saving Tips for Safe and Festive Holiday Lighting

Save big and be safe this holiday season by focusing on energy efficiency

With the holiday season officially upon us, it’s important to make time to celebrate with family and friends and holiday lighting is a key part of those festivities.  By following a few simple tips customers can benefit from a more environmentally friendly, safe and cost-effective way to light up the holiday season.

One of the best solutions for holiday decorating needs is the use of LED lighting.  These energy-efficient miniature or light-emitting diode (LED) lights have definite advantages over traditional lighting because they use 90 percent less energy which results in significant savings.

A Statement Released by the Western New York Sustainable  Energy Association

Buffalo, NY, On Saturday, October 13, 2012, over 1500 people from across WNY will experience  the Solar & Green Building Tour, an annual event held by the Western New York Sustainable  Energy Association (WNYSEA). 

With over 25 sites open across the region, for one day only, attendees will have an opportunity to learn about solar, geothermal, energy efficiency, net zero,  green roofs, LEED buildings and reuse of historic structures. This event is not a traditional tour, it is  an open house. All sites are open on October 13, 2012 from 10am – 4pm unless noted otherwise.

Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market Lists August 25 Events

The Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market, a Western New York tradition featuring more than 35 vendors selling fresh, seasonal and local products, is open for the 2012 season. Hours at the open-air market are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday, rain or shine. 

Providing musical entertainment on Saturday, Aug. 25, will be David Adamczyk from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Adam Giancarlo. Wine-tasting will be courtesy of Schulze Vineyards & Winery and Leonard Oakes Estate Winery.

Meet the New Peregrine Falcons At Central Terminal

Meet Alfreda and her sister Wagner...Buffalo, New York's two new peregrine falcons.

On Sunday, June 24, 2012 the Department of Environmental Conservation tagged and banded two chicks who reside on the 10th floor of Buffalo Central Terminal in the Historic Polonia District. The chicks were named after the two architects of Buffalo Central Terminal, Alfred Fellheimer (1875–1959) and Steward Wagner (1886–1958).

Buffalo Central Terminal has hosted a nest box for rare peregrines since 2010.
