Another Super Saturday Planned at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market

Just because we’re heading into September doesn’t mean that the fun is going to stop at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market in Buffalo, open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday.

Stop by this Saturday, September 4, to pick up everything you need for a great Labor Day picnic, from baked goods and fresh meat to delicious fruits and vegetables. And, why not pick up a bottle of wine from our vendors representing the Niagara Wine Trail?

While you’re shopping, enjoy the music of classical violinist David Adamczyk and check out the talented Plein-Air Painters who will be making their annual visit to the Market.

Congressman Higgins Announces Application Period for SAFER Federal Fire Grants

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) announced the application window for grants provided through the Department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Services (SAFER) program is now open.   SAFER grants are aimed at increasing the number of firefighters and enhancing a department’s ability to comply with federal standards that ensure that their communities have adequate protection from fire and fire related hazards.  This year Congress appropriated approximately $420 million for the SAFER program.

“I encourage local companies to apply for funding through this federal grant to help support outreach and recruitment of the next generation of first responders,” said Higgins.

The Buffalo Zoo's Snow Leopard Cubs Are Now on Exhibit!

Visitors can now view the Buffalo Zoo’s two male snow leopard cubs in their outdoor exhibit!

Named Ketu and Makalu after mountains in the Himalayas, the cubs were born on June 2, 2010 to mother, Annapurna, and father, Dwaine. The breeding was recommended as part of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) Species Survival Plan (SSP), which is designed to help a species maintain a healthy and stable population.

First-time mom, Annapurna, was the last snow leopard to be born at the Buffalo Zoo. She continues to take good care of her little ones, who have remained with her in the nest box off exhibit since their birth. Keepers set up a Live Cam in the nest box so visitors could observe the cubs’ progress on the monitor inside Ecostation. Visitors can now view Annapurna and her cubs in their outdoor exhibit in Vanishing Animals (North) from approximately 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. daily.
