Elmwood Village Flea Market to Open on Saturday
News

BUFFALO, NY - The Peddler -- an "outdoor retro, vintage, antique market," according to organizers -- opens for business on Saturday.

The outdoor market will be set up in the parking lot of Parish Commons at the corner of Elmwood and West Ferry streets.  It opens at 10am until about 4pm.

"So far we have lined up a stellar group of collectors and sellers who have all, at one point or another, made names for themselves for their unique eyes for vintage and retro styles," says Newell Nussbaumer, the driving force behind the new market and proprietor of Buffalo Rising, the local website devoted to all things Buffalo.

"Both guys' and girls' vintage apparel will be on hand, as will home accessories and antiques," he said in a statement released Friday.

"Buffalo is ready for this sort of upscale flea market. In a city where it's easy to walk and to get around, this is the type of activity that draws people out into the neighborhood," says Nussbaumer. "The market is also about quality of life. Much like the Bidwell Farmers' Market that takes place on Saturday just down the street, the Peddler gives people something to look forward to on the weekends."

Nussbaumer says the market will run "for the better part of the day - probably up until 4pm."

He was first inspired to create a flea market after visiting the old Chelsea Flea market in New York City. "Each time I would visit New York City I made sure that I stopped by to see all of the incredible wonders that were displayed."

Nussbaumer has started a Facebook page to track progress of the project.
