Dr. Greenfield Awarded an Additional $1.8 Million for the NIH/NIDDK Sponsored RIVUR Trial

Saul P. Greenfield, MD, Director of Pediatric Urology, Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo and Clinical Professor of Urology, University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences has been awarded an additional $1.8 million for the National Institute of Health/National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases sponsored RIVUR trial for children with vesicoureteral reflux.

Dr. Greenfield is principle investigator and Women & Children’s Hospital of Buffalo is a major site for this important national project. This brings the total award for RIVUR to $4.8 million and will ensure funding of the project through 2013.

Total NIH funding to the Department of Pediatric Urology is now just over $5 million, which includes the recent award for CUTIE (Careful Urinary Tract Infection Evaluation)—an observational clinical trial for children with a history and urinary infection and no underlying structural urologic abnormalities.

Doctor Awarded NIH Grant to Study Urinary Tract Infection and Renal Scarring

Saul P. Greenfield, MD, Director of Pediatric Urology and Clinical Professor of Urology, Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo, has been awarded $287,716 by the NIH/NIDDK for the study of urinary tract infection and renal scarring in children.

The CUTIE project (Careful Urinary Tract Infection Evaluation) will assess the risk of the development of renal scarring in children who have urinary tract infections and do not have vesicoureteral reflux or any other underlying urologic abnormalities.

Dr. Susan Baker Appointed to Editorial Boards of Pediatrics & Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology

Susan Baker, MD, PhD, Co-Chief, Digestive Diseases and Nutrition Center, Women & Children’s Hospital, Professor of Pediatrics, University at Buffalo, has been appointed to the editorial board of both Pediatrics and the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition starting January 2011. Dr. Baker’s term on each board is for 2 years.

Congratulations to Dr. Baker for earning these prominent appointments. This is a wonderful tribute to Dr. Baker that positively promotes the reputation of Women & Children’s Hospital with the University at Buffalo as a leading clinical and research center.

Pet Connection Announces October Events

Pet Connection Programs Inc., a special care shelter for dogs and cats located in Marilla, will be participating in several special events during the month of October.

Pet totes and other goodies will be available for sale from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 2 and 16 in the Walden Galleria in Cheektowaga, on the first floor near Sears. Volunteers will also be at the Eastern Hills Mall in Clarence from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. October 30.

Pet Connection Seeks Vendors for Popular Event

Have a business you'd like to promote or a product you’d like to sell? Pet Connection Programs Inc. is looking for vendors to participate in Tails on the Trails, their annual dog-walk fundraiser. The 2011 event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 4. The cost to vendors is just $25, and tables, chairs, tents and publicity are provided.
