America's pet industry is booming.  According to the market research company Packages Facts, pet owners spent $55 billion on products and services for their pet in 2010.  To fulfill area pet owners' desire to shop for quality products and services for their favorite furry friend, the Maddie's Pet Rescue Project will be hosting Western New York's largest Pet Expo.

The Pet Expo will be held on Sep 30 and Oct 1 at the Fairgrounds Event Center in Hamburg.  Boarding facilities, fencing companies, gourmet pet treat makers, and other businesses that would appeal to a pet owner's lifestyle are invited to participate in this comprehensive event.  Local rescue groups can also take part in the Expo's Super Adoption Event.  Between established pet owners and those who adopt during the Pet Expo, over 2,500 people are expected to attend.

Rescue Groups from Across WNY are Expecting ... Kittens!

Rescue Groups from Across WNY are Expecting ... Kittens!

Kitten season is in full swing, and to help find homes for the cuddly kittens in their care, the partner organizations of the Maddie’s® Pet Rescue Project are hosting a Kitten Shower on June 25, 2011.  The City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, HEART, SPCA Serving Erie County, and Ten Lives Club will be present at the Galleria Mall on the lower level near the Apple Store from 11:00am - 2:00pm.  Scores of cats will be available in all ages and colors.

Presently overwhelmed with kittens, the Maddie’s® Project partners need to work quickly to place them in loving homes.  Those adopters who bring a “gift” to the shower, such as towels, scratchers, or plastic carriers, will receive a reduced adoption fee.  Fees, which will vary by organization, include the cost of spay/neuter surgery and vaccinations.

Barbecue Season is Upon Us! Remember to Play it Safe at the Grill

Lifesaving Tips from the Firemen’s Association of the State of NY…

With Memorial Day weekend right around the corner, many people will be hosting backyard barbecues. The Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY) is reminding residents to follow important fire safety tips so that they can enjoy a safe summer season.

“The outdoor cookout season will soon be in full swing.  Unfortunately, a barbecue grill could start a fire if certain safety rules are ignored,” said Firemen’s Association of the State of New York President David Jacobowitz.  “It’s important to position the grill far away from siding, deck railings, trees and other flammables. When gatherings involve children, it’s critical that a child-free zone of at least three feet is established around the grill.”
