West Side Neighborhood Housing Services, Congressman Higgins Announce $68,150 from NeighborWorks Ame

Congressman Brian Higgins (NY-27) and West Side Neighborhood Services announce help for Western New York, through a $68,150 grant from NeighborWorks® America, at a time when communities are taking early steps back from the housing crisis and jobs need to be created most.   This flexible funding source will help West Side Neighborhood Housing Services in a variety of ways, including providing key service delivery funds for homebuyer education, owner-occupied rehabilitation, foreclosure prevention and community building programs.

West Side Neighborhood Housing Services’ Executive Director, Linda Chiarenza, says these flexible funds are vital as Buffalo communities face increasing needs and decreasing funding.

Elmwood Village Survey Identifies New Business Opportunities

Elmwood Village Survey Identifies New Business Opportunities

BUFFALO, NY – The Elmwood Village Association (EVA) has announced the completion of a consumer needs survey intended to identify the types of specialty businesses that residents and consumers would desire and patronize in the Elmwood Village commercial district.

Respondents identified the need for five specific niche businesses: hardware store, sporting goods store, cheese store, butcher shop, and seafood store.

“By exploring the needs of our residents, the EVA can strengthen the economic health of the commercial district and the surrounding neighborhoods,” says Betsy Bergen, Chair of the EVA’s Economic Development Committee.  “The results from this survey give us the ammunition we need to reach out to specialty shops that are desired by people who regularly shop on Elmwood – businesses that will complement our already diversified shopping district,” she added.
