Buffalo State Selected to Host NYS Master Teacher Program

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced Monday that Buffalo State has been selected as a regional host campus for New York State’s new Master Teacher Program, which will reward the state’s highest performing teachers, ensure that the best and brightest stay in education, and encourage the state’s best teachers to share their expertise with peers.

Sem Senior Wins 2013 National Merit Scholarship

Eliza A. Hopkins, a senior at Buffalo Seminary, has been named a 2013 National Merit $2,500 Scholarship winner. A member of both the National Honor Society and Cum Laude Society, Eliza has distinguished herself as a High Honors student throughout her tenure at Sem. With this most recent honor, she joins an elite group of nationwide high school scholars.

According to an official announcement from the National Merit Scholarship Corp., Eliza was chosen from a talent pool of more than 15,000 outstanding finalists in the 2013 National Merit Scholarship Program. Finalists in each state were judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills and potential for success in rigorous college studies. The number of winners named in each state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

Rose Garden Early Childhood Center Has Limited Openings Available

 

The Rose Garden Early Childhood Center, located in a beautifully renovated “green” building at 257 Lafayette Ave. in Buffalo, still has a limited number of openings for its creative toddler programs. The Center offers half-day and full-day programs for children from 18 months to 5 years of age in a homelike environment where domestic arts and physical development are the core of a play-based curriculum.

“Lattes with Adrian,” an open forum on the Buffalo School Board race with Park District candidate Adrian F. Harris, will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 22, at Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road, South Buffalo.

The event will be held upstairs in the Enlightenment Literary Arts Center and is open to the public.

Legislator Dixon, Urban Valet announce  free prom dresses available

 

Erie County Legislator Lynne Dixon and Urban Valet Dry Cleaners announce that the 4th annual Prom Dress Drive Shopping Days will be held Saturday, April 13 and Sunday, April 14 at Performing Arts Dance Academy, located at 206 Lake St., Hamburg.

 

Girls are invited to come and shop for a free dress from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. A large selection of colors, sizes and styles will be displayed for girls to look through. Dressing rooms will be provided to allow shoppers to try on three (3) dresses at a time.

 

“The shopping days are a lot of fun and help families handle the cost associated with preparing for the prom or other formal event. This year we have a large collection, featuring some truly amazing gowns,” said Legislator Dixon. “All local girls are invited to come and shop through the selection during one of the two shopping days.”

The event will be held upstairs in the Enlightenment Literary Arts Center and is open to the public.
