Over 1,000 Cards Collected through Legislator Lorigo’s 2nd Annual Valentines for Veterans Program

Handmade Valentine’s Day cards were delivered to local veterans thanks to students at schools located throughout Erie County – District 10. Legislator Joseph Lorigo, who represents the 10thDistrict, visited several of the schools recently to recognize the students for participating in his second annual Valentines for Veterans program, which honors members of the military for their service.

'Say Yes Buffalo' Announces Report Card to Measure Success at CLC Meeting

The Say Yes Buffalo Community Leadership Council (CLC), the body comprised of civic and community leaders responsible for monitoring outcomes for the collaborative partnership, held its second quarterly meeting today at True Bethel Baptist Church in Buffalo. The meeting focused on the presentation and discussion of what data points will be tracked year-over-year to measure the impact of the work that Say Yes Buffalo is coordinating with partners throughout the Western New York community.

Say Yes Buffalo and its partners aim to:

·         Strengthen the Buffalo public school district

·         Remove the barriers that prevent students from successfully graduating high school and going on to earn a postsecondary degree (trade certificate or college degree)

Buffalo State President Introduces New College Crest

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- SUNY Buffalo State President Aaron Podolefsky introduced a new college crest Wednesday, January 30, revealing a bold mark that embodies the institution’s academic mission and dedication to excellence.

The new crest mark, which replaces the Buffalo State typeface logo, will now serve as the institution’s official logo. The crest is available to the general campus and news media in a family of three configurations (circular, horizontal, and vertical) to suit a wide range of applications.

“Elements of the new crest aptly capture Buffalo State’s academic excellence and build on our historic significance in higher education. Its look visually evokes a message of educational vibrancy that remains a central tenet of our institutional mission and vision,” said Podolefsky.

Canisius High School Names Schoellkopf New CFO

P. Joseph Koessler ’81, president of Canisius High School, has announced the appointment of Robert J. Schoellkopf, CPA, to the position of chief financial officer. A 2000 graduate of Canisius, Schoellkopf most recently served as retail controller for NOCO Energy Corp. in Tonawanda.

Prior to joining NOCO in 2009, Schoellkopf held an auditing position with Ernst & Young, LLP, having joined the company in 2004. A Buffalo resident, Schoellkopf earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting and a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from Loyola College in Maryland. He is a member of the New York State Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Buffalo State Celebrates Student Union Reopening Thursday

Buffalo State celebrated the reopening of the newly renovated Campbell Student Union with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Thursday in the building’s main lobby.  After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, students, faculty, staff, and guests were treated to tours of the new facilities, live music, giveaways, and more. 

The Student Union’s $6.3-million-rehabilitation, designed by BHNT Architects, marks another milestone in Buffalo State’s construction boom. The college is currently engaged in a roster of capital projects that will transform campus and result in nearly $350 million in new construction and improvements by 2016.
